Learning about rack accessories
At the end of the school year, students of our school had a unique opportunity to attend free workshops. Twelve students who had managed to obtain best results in ICT classes were invited for the training. The topic of this additional lesson was connected with server rooms maintenance. You know, only people who were really interested in the subject took part in the workshops, and the truth is, they already knew something about server rooms. Some of them were actually going to try to create their own. Taking into account that the training was run by a local university professor, they could learn a lot. They found out what equipment to buy, how to connect it in the most effective way, what rack accessories to use and how to protest the equipment form outside conditions such as heat or moisture. Of course, practical training was also involved. Participants visited a large data centre in London to see for themselves how it all worked. All of the students who took part in the workshops are going to start studying information technology. Two of them, who were in their last years at school, have just been accepted by one of our local universities. We asked the rest of the participants how they were going to use the knowledge they have gained. They explained that they would like to buy some quality equipment and rack accessories and experiment on their own, but of course, it can be a bit expensive.
